Membership Grades...

Fellows

A Corporate Member who has rendered special services to the Institute may be elected to Fellowship by resolution of a General Meeting of the Institute.

Member

  • Shall have been an Incorporated Member for at least five years
  • Shall have satisfied the Council that he has been engaged as a practicing assessor for at least five years
  • Shall have passed all of the Institute’s written examinations, or qualified via the Mature Candidate Scheme
  • Shall have satisfied the Council that he is currently competent
  • Can provide an acceptable CPD record which shows development for a period of at least the last 5 years

Incorporated Members

  • Shall have an automotive engineering or motor vehicle body repair apprenticeship, or equivalent training.
  • Shall have passed at least 4 sections of the Institute’s written examinations, or qualified via the Mature Candidate Scheme
  • Shall have passed the Institute’s practical estimating examination within the last 5 years
  • Shall have satisfied the Council that he has at least two years in an automotive assessing role in connection with automotive claims
  • Can provide an acceptable CPD record which shows development for a period of at least the last 2 years

Licensed Estimator

  • Shall have passed the IMI, ATA oral and practical examinations and hold current certificate and submit as proof. (This certificate is only valid for 5 years and IAEA accreditation will cease on this date, a new and valid certificate will need to be supplied to continue with this grade of accreditation)
  • Shall have satisfied the Council that they have sufficient experience in estimating.

Associates

  • Shall have served an automotive engineering apprenticeship or in the opinion of the Council have had equivalent training
  • Shall have passed the Institute’s oral examinations
  • Shall have passed the Institute’s practical estimating examinations within the last five years
  • Shall be a person who has appropriate experience as a practising assessor

Graduates

A Student who passes at least four sections of the written examinations but who has had less than two year’s experience in an automotive assessing role in connection with automotive claims is eligible for the grade of Graduate.

Students

No criteria is required but Students cannot proceed above the grade of Incorporated Member under this rule. No person shall remain a Student for more than five years during this period the four written examinations will need to be taken.

The study plan is that you will have taken one of the exams within the first 18 months,
after 2 years you will have taken 2 examinations and after 3 years have taken 3 exams, by the end of your five year period you should have taken all four sections. You should then work towards taking the Practical examination.
