It's not a pretty sight - the impact of EU-wide Covid-19 shutdowns amounts to losses of at least 2,424,955 vehicles

ACEA publishes European 2020 production figures

18 May 2020, Belgium, ACEA published an interactive map which shows the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the production of motor vehicles for each of the 27 EU member states plus the UK.

  • EU-wide production losses due to factory shutdowns amount to at least 2,424,955 motor vehicles so far (figure includes passenger cars, trucks, vans, buses and coaches).
  • The average shutdown duration is 30 working days at the moment.
  • Production losses are obviously set to increase if shutdowns are extended or additional plants are brought to a halt.
  • In the UK 250,792 units lost as a result of 40 days downtime.
