Tesla crash driver was warned

The National transportation Safety Board has released a report on the fatal Tesla crash of May 2016.

500 pages of findings on the death of Joshua Brown have been released after the fatal crash where the Model S car collided with a lorry in Florida. The car was in autopilot mode at the time.

The report has found that the cruise control was set at 74mph in a 65mph speed limit zone and that the driver had his hands on the wheel for 25 seconds out of 37 minutes of driving.

The Safety Board found that the truck should have been visible to the driver for at least seven seconds before the crash but that he took 'no braking, steering or other actions to avoid the collision'.

A visual warning of 'hands required not detected' was given seven separate times with six of those sounding a chime.

Tesla has unveiled updates to the autopilot system which will temporarily prevent drivers from using the system if they do not respond to audible warnings to take control of the car.

In January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it had found no evidence of defects in the car.
