VW to buy back diesel cars

BBC reports that Volkswagen has said it will buy back new or nearly new diesel cars in Germany after a German court banned them in some cities.

The move, taken in order to reduce pollution has pushed VW to announce that vehicles bought after April will be bought back as long as customers buy a replacement from the same dealership. While the deal is only applicable in Germany at the moment, should the ban extend beyond Germany, other countries could see it apply to them too.

The scheme is guaranteed to last three years and VW has also announced it will extend its 'diesel environmental incentive' where customers can receive a bonus for trading in an older model diesel car, will last until the summer.

VW says that the scheme has taken some 120,000 old diesel vehicles off the road since August last year.
