London sees autonomous cars

Five autonomous cars are driving around Bromley and Croydon as part of a new trial.

Run by FiveAI, the test will see the vehicles driving around the buroughs in self-driving mode – although they will have a driver behind the wheel ready to take over if necessary.

FiveAI hopes to begin passenger trials in 2020 on its way to rolling out an autonomous, car-sharing service in London.

Co-founder and chief executive Stan Boland said, 'Safety and trusted partnerships are crucial to everything we do. We'll continue to keep residents informed along the way, working closely with the London Boroughs and Transport for London.'
