The New Salvage Code

The updated ABI code of practice for the disposal of motor vehicle salvage was established in 2007, refreshed and republished in 2013, 2015 and 2019 (current).

The code of practice was intended to be updated every two years.

However, due to COVID 19 the restrictions prevented an update during this time.

A current review of this is now underway, and an updated / revised code is being established & defined. The new code revisions reflect the increasing complexity of newer vehicle technologies and constructions, which can make it harder for damaged cars to be safely repaired. It also has a greater focus on the condition of the vehicle and the safety impact to the public should it return to use, rather than repair costs.
