Carzam kicks off recruitment drive

As the online used car dealer gears up for an October launch it is searching for new talent.

"We will be a true online retailer selling used cars," said Peter Waddell. "We're ramping up the business to get ready for the launch and now our transporters are rolling around the country with stock ready for the launch."

Waddell said he has taken on a number of new staff members for the Carzam project which will see customers be able to buy their used cars online and, in some cases, have them delivered to their homes on the same day. "We are taking on MOT testers to painters and call centre and admins staff. We are getting ready to open very soon," he added.

Carzam has also purchased 25 covered lorries, 21 car transporters and 55 covered low loader vans to deliver the used cars to customer homes. The company also has a dedicated preparation centre in Peterborough where it will process up to 350 cars a day in a 24 hour operation. The Cambridgeshire site will also be home to Carzam's call centre, bringing new employment to the area.

Waddell added: "It's upsetting to see job losses around in the motor industry at the moment but there are companies expanding, like us."

Waddell and Bailey have invested £50m into the Carzam venture and are likely to seek further investment in the New Year.
