ITAI held its 2023 Crash Day at Darley Moor MCRRC in Ashbourne, Derbyshire on Thursday 8 June

ITAI - Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators – another successful Crash Day event

  1. As every year, the event was well organised and provided an excellent day for research. Attendees were able to witness ten crashes during the day:
  2. Head-on crash both cars moving at 10mph.
  3. Car travelling at 50mph into a traditional 8m lighting column
  4. Head-on - vehicles moving at 20mph
  5. Car travelling at 50mph into a Hydro 10m passive lighting column
  6. Head-on - vehicles moving at 30mph
  7. Car travelling at 50mph into a Optimast passive signpost
  8. Series of staged slow speed collisions
  9. Head-on - vehicles moving at 40mph Ambulance crashed into three stationary vehicles in-line
  10. T-bone crash- car into stationary ambulance

In addition, there were three interactive activities for attendees to experience:

  • E-Scooter demonstration rides.
  • Driver Assist provided a vehicle fitted with advanced emergency braking system (AEBS).
  • Lane change manoeuvres – Dresden company Ingenieurburo Schal und Mayer collected data from attendees regarding the length of time it takes for cyclists to change lanes.
